Job description

SPAR Portarlington, Canal House, Station Rd, Portarlington, Co Laois is looking for a full-time Trainee Manager to join their fantastic team. 

Successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years retail experience with experience with food preparation and HACCP an advantage also.

SUPERVISORY

  • Supervise the activities of retail sales team daily and ensure necessary tasks are completed to an appropriate level.

  • Ensure high quality and consistent customer service is always provided.

  • To delegate and communicate effectively with the retail sales team.

  • To supervise the effective induction and training of all employees.

  • To communicate sales performance to the team.

  • Assist the store manager in the recruitment of retail sales assistants.

  • Assist the store manager in the effective management of retail sales team performance.

  • Assist with Back Office management

OPERATIONS

  • Ensure store is merchandised in a customer friendly and competitive manner ensuring compliance with company procedures and guidelines.

  • Ensure housekeeping in the store is maintained at an optimum level.

  • Co-ordinate in-store sales and promotions.

  • To communicate with retail sales team regarding in store sales and promotions.

  • To ensure the appropriate cash register and cash handling policy is adhered to.

  • To ensure shelf edged labels are updated on a weekly basis.

  • To react to local market trends and competition in an appropriate manner.

  • To ensure customers always receive high quality and consistent service.

  • To deal with and rectify customer complaints in an effective and pleasant manner.

  • To pro-actively take necessary action in store improvements following customer complaints.

GENERAL

  • To know and understand company policies and procedures and ensure they are implemented effectively by retail sales team.

  • To achieve targets as agreed with store manager.

  • Escalate issues to store manager as appropriate.

  • To communicate with the store manager on an ongoing basis.

  • To deputise as store manager when the store manager is not available.

  • To undertake other additional duties as may be assigned by the store manager.

Job requirements

The ideal candidate will possess many of the below attributes:

  • Previous supervisory experience

  • Operational knowledge of retail environment

  • Working knowledge of CBE back office would be an advantage

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • An understanding of consumer needs

  • Understanding of employment, health & safety , HACCP, and consumer legislation

  • Committed to continually improving standards

  • Self-motivated & ambitious

  • Computer literate
